Holiday Stocking Drive

The Student Climate and Culture Committee would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our generous community for donating goods for our overseas military. These items will be packed into holiday stockings by the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Club member, Barbara Warnkin, and mailed to our active-duty service members who bravely fight for our freedom.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support in helping bring holiday cheer to the courageous men and women serving our country!

On Thursday, October 9th, the 5th-grade class enjoyed a fabulous field trip to White Lake, hosted by Warren County Land Preservation’s Park Specialist, Jennifer Kruegel. She, along with two other Park Specialists, led students through three engaging, hands-on activities designed to teach them about the various strategies wildlife use to survive in nature.

The first activity was a half-mile hike where students identified different types of seeds. The Park Naturalist explained the purpose of each seed, how they travel, and discussed which plants are native versus invasive to our area.

During the second activity, titled “Find Your Flock,” students performed bird calls to locate others with matching calls. Once they found their flock, they used different tools representing bird beaks to explore how various beak shapes help birds access specific food sources.

The third activity quickly became a favorite. Ms. Kruegel displayed a collection of animal skulls and furs from local mammals. Students examined features such as fur type, claws, and eye socket placement to understand how these adaptations help animals survive. They also learned ways humans can help native mammals thrive alongside us.

It was a wonderful day of outdoor learning, and the students represented BES with great pride!
