READING

In reading class, we read different novels.  We read through our novels in a variety of ways.  We read as a whole class, in small groups, silently (independently), and with partners.  We generally read each story two times, in two different ways.  We do a variety of activities to enhance comprehension and then the students will be asked to demonstrate their level of comprehension in numerous ways.  We always have a list of vocabulary words to learn with each story.  We will most often have a quiz on these words.  We usually do a writing project after each story.  Ask your child what they wrote about!

In addition to classwork, the students will be expected to read books of their choice throughout the year at school and at home.  They will demonstrate their comprhension of these stories by doing book reviews (usually 1 per marking period), book reports/porject (usually 1 per marking period), and class discussions.
