SUPPORTING READING with AR
(Accelerated Reader)

Our school has an Accelerated Reader program in which all our reading students are a part of. This is a program which allows your student to read a variety of books that have a computer-generated test which follows that can be completed in our classroom during silent reading time, during recess, or even if the child finishes other work early. Students receive points for correct answers on tests and will be announced during our afternoon announcements by our principal upon reaching 25 AR points. Although I do not require a specific number of AR book tests to be completed each marking period, I do celebrate with students whom enjoy this program. If a student scores an 80% or higher on an AR test, his/her name will be put into a box, and at the end of the marking period, I will choose 3 names out of the box, and those students can choose a free book from me. I also give the students little treats upon reaching 20, 30, 40, 50, etc. points to encourage reading.
